PCB wants meet with BCCI officials on Indo-Pak cricket
The Pakistan Cricket Board says “everything is in the air” as far as
resumption of bilateral series with India is concerned and it does not
expect any progress on the issue until the BCCI holds a formal meeting
with its officials.
“The truth is right now everything is in the air. And frankly speaking even our policy on resuming bilateral cricket ties with India would only be made once we get a formal invitation from the Indians for a meeting or for next year’s series in India,” PCB chief operating officerSubhan Ahmad said.

Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi laid to rest at ancestral palace
Former Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, who died of a
lung ailment in Delhi on Thursday, was laid to rest at his ancestral
palace on Friday with thousands thronging the burial site to pay their
last respects leading to chaotic scenes.
Pataudi, who was 70 when he breathed his last at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi, was buried next to the grave of his father, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi — the last ruling Nawab of Bhopal.
As distraught family members, bid final goodbye to the man who was fondly called ‘Tiger’, there was chaos at the Pataudi Palace’s sprawling campus with close to 15,000 people converging at the burial site to catch a glimpse of the proceedings.
The huge police presence was hardly a deterrent as media and the gathered crowd jostled to be the closest to the grave even as the Pataudi family grieved in silence.
Pataudi’s wife, yesteryears’ Bollywood star Sharmila Tagore, looked calm and composed when she came on the palace balcony once along with other female family members.
Pataudi’s son Saif Ali Khan, also a Bollywood actor, performed the last rites after offering Friday prayers. Saif’s actress girlfriend Kareena Kapoor looked distraught along with Pataudi’s daughters Soha and Saba, both of whom were inconsolable.

Here are the Top 10 Most Rumored Features of Apple iPhone 5:
- Design: The new phone is expected to adopt a teardrop design that is supposed to be slimmer and lighter than past iPhone models. The iPhone 5 is expected to come with an aluminum plate casing rather than the current glass backing..
- Display: The iPhone 5 is anticipated to have an edge-to-edge 4-inch retina display. A curved glass display screen is also rumored that may offer more privacy while viewing in public areas. The Quantum Dot LED technology could be a possible delivery system for the iPhone 5. The new technology needs less power consumption while delivering the same quality of an OLED screen.
- Dual-Core Processor: As we know several of Apple's rivals, from LG and Motorola to Samsng have already released dual-core processor phones. According to a recent media report from 9to5 Mac, Apple gave its developers a dual-core iPhone 4 to allow them to prep for the iPhone 5.
- Upgraded Camera: A rumor back in April, from Ming-Chi Kuo of Concord Securities, said the iPhone 5 would carry the 8 megapixel rear camera. Another rumor had Sony replacing Omnivsion and making the iPhone 5's improved camera. Expect a better phone with the iPhone 5.
- 4G: There have been a lot of rumors regarding the possibility of the next-generation iPhone being available on 4G networks for AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. The consensus from analysts and tech experts seems to be that the iPhone 5 will not have 4G support. Our question is why not? Plenty of new phones have come out with 4G, and all three major U.S. carriers are pumping up support for their networks. Apple has always been ahead of the smartphone trends, why lag behind on this one?
- iCloud: iPhone 5 is expected to feature the new iCloud service in operating iTunes for wireless remote access of music from all computers and mobile devices. The iCloud will also store photos, apps, calendars and documents without storing them onto the phone's memory storage.
- iOS 5: Apple's iOS 5.0, which is the newest of the OS versions, was announced on June 6 at the WWDC 2011 keynote address. The new iOS 5 is expected to come with 200 new features that will include Improved Notifications System, News Stand and iMessage. It will also feature new applications, such as the Reminders app and Newsstand, an application resembling Folders and iBooks.
- NFC Payment: There have been reports since early this year that Apple is testing an iPhone that incorporates Near Field Communication technology. Users can simply pay for goods by waving their iPhone in front of a contactless payment scanner. Mobile-payment services using NFC will be a hot segment in the future. The technology could offer features that allow multiple mobile devices to sync for speedier information exchange and gaming.
- World Phone with SIM-less Design: Making it a worldphone, the iPhone 5 is rumored to feature a new SIM-less design with two to three internal antennas for CDMA and GSM compatibility.

Google Purchases Over 1,000 IBM Patents to Protect Android
Mobile lawsuits have been flinging back and forth through much of
2011, whether its Apple attacking Samsung repeatedly for its
Android-powered Galaxy Tab 10.1 and smartphones, or Samsung fighting
back with a 3G lawsuit against Apple. Apple even slammed Amazon with a
lawsuit because its Android Appstore had a name much too similar to
Apple’s “App Store.”
With so many patent lawsuits being thrown around recently, Google, maker of the Android operating system, bought over 1,000 patents in order to protect itself.
Jim Prosser, a spokesman for Google, confirmed this week that Google bought 1,023 patents from International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) on August 17, according to Bloomberg. Prosser, however, did not offer details on financial terms.

Nokia to Cut 3,500 Jobs in 2012
Earlier this year, Nokia made a few changes in order to even out its
R&D operations in smart devices and mobile phones. Nokia announced
today that it wants to continue working to align its operations and
workforce by making reductions in manufacturing, the Location &
Commerce business, and “supporting functions.”
As a result, a manufacturing facility in Cluj, Romania will be closed by the end of 2011. Nokia said its Asian factories offer greater benefits as far as scale goes.
Manufacturing facilities in Komarom, Hungary, Salo, Finland and Reynosa, Mexico, which serve European and North American smartphone customers, will also experience job losses as their focus is shifted to sales package customization as well as customer/market software. These job losses are expected to affect 2,200 employees, but will not occur until the first quarter of 2012.
As far as the Location & Commerce business goes, Nokia will close facilities in Bonn, Germany and Malvern, U.S. It will keep facilities open in sites such as Berlin, Boston and Chicago. Nokia notes that it will use automation to replace these workers in an effort to increase effectiveness. This particular action is part of its consolidation of NAVTEQ and Nokia’s social location services operations, and is expected to affect 1,300 employees.
“We are seeing solid progress against our strategy, and with these planned changes we will emerge as a more dynamic, nimble and efficient challenger,” said Stephen Elop, President and CEO of Nokia. “We must take painful, yet necessary steps to align our workforce and operations with our path forward.”
The planned changes are expected to be complete by the end of 2012.

Speck Products: Designing for the iPhone 5
In an airy storefront along a tree-lined Palo Alto, California street, the Speck Products design team is faced with a unique challenge. Designing a case for Apple’s mysterious, rumor-shrouded iPhone 5.
Arguably the most popular – and successful – smartphone and laptop case and cover maker, Speck is currently burning the ‘midnight oil’ to prepare designs for one of the world’s most secretive products: Apple’s iPhone 5. But it’s not the first time.
Speck has done this before – very successfully. With each incarnation of the newest Apple products they’ve come up with smart, sleek cases and covers that combine quiet luxury with industrial simplicity that has Speck products stocked in Apple stores across the country.
Like many people, I discovered Speck while looking for the perfect shell to protect my laptop – my most recent Speck acquisition was a charcoal cae for my Air, picked up in Apple’s Union Square store. I’ve grown to not just like my Speck cases, but really love them.
